Restoring a classic car is very challenging. It requires a significant commitment to successfully complete this type of project. It also demands a great deal of time and money. Many enthusiasts find great satisfaction and pride in completing their own project. There are a few things to consider during the restoration of a classic car.

Restoring The Car

Many car lovers revel in the thought of saving a classic car from the scrap yard. Others are eager to save a few dollars when buying their project car. A car that is considered a total basket case should be restored only if it has sentimental value or if money no object. Sometimes this is not practical. A solid car is going to be more expensive. It should have a good body, frame, and drive-line. It will pay off in the long run. Some of the components can be replaced easily. Those components include brakes, tires, and ball joints. Frame corrosion or collision damage can be very expensive. Those repairs can be time consuming as well. You can do some research to understand the common problem areas for a certain make and model of car the you are interested in restoring. Try to find a classic car buyers checklist. This will keep you from overlooking anything.

The Price

You need to decide what kind of restoration you are going to do. If you are considering bringing your old ride back to its original glory, the price becomes a bigger consideration. Do not under estimate the cost of original parts.

Using A Camera

This is very important. The photos will serve as a crucial resource and reference during the reassembly procedure. Try to save your project-related photos if you use a digital camera. Save the photos in a folder on your computer so they don’t get misplaced. You can take pictures from multiple angles. Make sure to use plenty of light.

Plan And Budget

Every project should begin with the development of the restoration. This includes what needs to be done and when it will be completed. Try to map out the important tasks. You need to make notes of the major repairs. Develop a budget. You need to figure out how much you are willing to spend. You also need to figure out the trade offs, engine modification, paint job, interior, suspension upgrades, and the finish you want. When you have a budget, it ensures that you will have the funds to finish the project.

Dodge Charger

Using The Right Tool

You are going to need the proper equipment required for the project. This includes more than a floor jack, a set of wrenches, and a canvas garage. The area you are working in should be dry, clean, and well lit.

Getting The Right Safety Equipment

You need to use the correct safety equipment. This personal protective equipment includes safety glasses, leather gloves, ear plugs, respirator, etc. This will help protect your safety and your health.

Brake Lathe Installation

An on-car lathe and an off-car lathe are two types of brakes lathe installations. An on-car lathe does a dependable job. This is because it is installed in the same position as the brake caliper. For an off-car lathe requires the rotor to be removed from the car. The rotor is mounted to the lathe. This kind of lathe depends more on its own alignment.

Car Sales In UK Show Encouraging Growth

Finally some encouraging news for everyone; particularly those looking for a new car!

According to latest statistics, there has been a steady rise in car sales in the United Kingdom, a very encouraging sign that things are starting to improve, particularly the ailing economy. The new couldn’t have come at a better time, when Hybrid cars are all the rage and more and more people are thinking about eco-friendly fuel efficient cars instead of the gas guzzling alternatives.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) who have been keeping a close eye at the UK’s auto industry reported that there were around 66,749 new registrations in the month of January. Compare that number with statics exactly one year ago, there is a substantial increase; 7.9% to be exact indicating a green signal for the growth of auto industry.

The United Kingdom was one of the top countries that was badly afflicted by the recession. The impact affected numerous industries, countless individuals, throughout the region. The car industry was one of them. The crisis left it almost paralysed, leaving the car industry struggling to keep up as the unemployment rate climbed. However, the latest statistics indicate that things are turning for better as the automotive industry is showing encouraging growth. This growth is by no means ordinary; Car sales have increased for the 12th successive month in January capping off a perfect 2013 for the automobile industry.

People are already questioning this amazing turn around but it’s not that hard to guess. Everything in interconnect but it all stems from two things; jobs and savings. People who have jobs are people who are earning money; enough of it to eventually start thinking about buying things over time. A car is by all means a substantial investment. It more than pays for itself as it becomes an integral component of a person’s day to day life. People buying cars is a sign they are confident enough to make that investment given the job market and stock market trading.

But that’s now all. There is more to the good news.

The rise has overwhelmed the manufacturers and they are trying to contribute in every way to give a boost to the industry. SMMT also reported that it took total sales of 210,039 for 2013, which is a whopping 10.3% increase and caps off a 4 year high for the industry. The car buying trend has picked up and people are putting themselves in the hot seat. Keep in mind that these numbers indicate both new cars and used cars. Used cars in particular showed double the growth compared to new models which makes sense. People are more inclined to play it safe and own a nice, reliable, efficient used car, then get a zero metre brand new vehicle. Moreover, hybrid cars cost less than non-hybrid models further making the case for people on a limited budget to get behind the wheel.

Even though January is usually a low volume month because people spend most of their money on Christmas and New Year but SMMT is predicting that this rise in car buying trend will continue well into this year as well. New car deals and great bargains are keeping the market afloat. It was observed that the compact and mini cars sold out much faster than other models.

Sadly there wasn’t good news to go around everywhere. While the UK did experience positive growth, things in the Europe as whole remain a cause of concern. The picture was not rosy for the European vehicle sales, as they slumped 8.2% in 2013 much to the dismay of businesses analysts and pundits.  SMMT reported that UK factories produced 1.46 million cars in 2012 alone and out of them 1.21 million were sent abroad. The consumer’s confidence is the most important thing to maintain and with the steady and positive growth in automotive industry. As far the United Kingdom is concerned, it looks like finally things are turning the other way and the UK auto industry has started moving forward defying all the obstacles.

One thing is for sure though. 2014 will be an incredibly important month for the auto industry. If this momentum from 2013 keeps up, it will positively impact other sectors as well and could very well make 2014 the decisive year not just for the United Kingdom but also for the European Region.

Fleet Management Made Easy

Many large companies with a fleet of vehicles need to have personnel looking after that side of the business. Fleet management is a full time job. If a company has a number of vehicles on the road, both delivery vans or trucks and sales personnel cars then there are all the issues of documentation, insurance and finance, servicing and of course purchasing. It is a support function but completely non productive when it comes to the business sector in which it operates. There must be a better way.

Every company is different and there are various ways to handle vehicles within a company’s accounts. Each vehicle that is an asset of the company will be depreciated over a period down to nil value though there may well be significant value in the vehicle itself.

Contract hire

The alternative to actually owning a fleet of vehicles is to acquire them on contract hire whereby they never appear within the company balance sheet. The expense appears merely in the profit and loss account. There are certainly advantages in having another company looking after everything.  A company like pixorental.com can provide a national facility supplying commercial vehicles of varying sizes and cars ranging between the ideal salesman’s car and a little luxury for the boss.

A rental company takes responsibility for its vehicles. There will be procedures in place in the event of an accident, an emergency breakdown and even when the driver is facing a traffic offense. Regular servicing ensures that the problems a company with a fleet of contract hire vehicles will face should be minimal. Cars and vans can be exchanged at the end of a specific period and new ones provided.

Branding

There should be no problem in branding vehicles; after all mobile advertising can still benefit your company and costs you nothing. Your delivery vans may spend all day travelling around a city for example. Advertising on buses is popular because it is seen as effective so the cost of personalisation is a small price to pay for good exposure.

Finding the ideal supplier

There is only the decision to make; and that’s which firm to use. There may be several companies offering the facilities you require and you should look for a combination of competitive pricing and service when making that decision. Websites generally provide everything you need to know about what a company is offering and you will always be welcome to address any questions that are not covered by the site.

It is surely food for thought if you have always bought vehicles in a piecemeal way and serviced them whenever required. If you use a single company to look after your needs there will be little for you to worry about other than the price you are paying for the service. No matter the size of your business, if you have a number of vehicles in service it’s worthwhile finding out more about outsourcing your fleet management and if your business would benefit from such a decision.

Highlights of The 2013 L.A. Auto Show

The 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show started on November 22 and will end on December 1, with a total of 56 production models having their world première there, along with several concept cars. There are many highlights from the show that are worth mentioning, including some luxury SUVs, such as the Porsche Macan, high-performance sports cars, such as the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, but some alternative fuel vehicles, as well, such as the Hyundai Tucson FCEV.

Porsche showed off the 2014 Macan, their compact crossover SUV, that should go into production by the end of this year. The company decided to name it Macan, which is the Indonesian word for tiger, although it originally planned to name it Cajun. It comes with a 3.0-liter, V6 engine, delivering 340 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Even though details on its performance haven’t been released, you should expect a top speed of over 150 mph, and a 0 to 60 mph time of about 5 seconds.

Land Rover unveiled its incredibly luxury, incredibly expensive Range Rover Autobiography Black. It will only be offered in the U.S. market, and the company will only build 100 units, making it a pretty exclusive item to own. It comes with 18-way power-adjustable front seats, and climate and massage control for all seats. The seats are covered in high-quality leather, there is a panoramic sunroof, LED mood lamps, and 10-inch screens keeping the rear seat passengers entertained. All this luxury comes with a $185,000 pricetag.

South Korean car maker Hyundai was very busy at this year’s show, presenting a couple of models, including the Elantra, the Tucson FCEV, and the Genesis. The Genesis is a car that is targeted to the high-end consumer, but at a significantly lower price than the average luxury car. Its starting price is set at $35,200, which is pretty reasonable, considering the amenities and luxury features it has. It’s powered by a 3.8-liter, V6 engine, and delivers a 27-mpg fuel economy. It has a leather-wrapped steering wheel, as well as a leather-wrapped shift knob, heated seats, a 7-inch touch screen navigation with DVD and text-to-speech feature, along with a Bluetooth hands-free phone system.

Another highlight of the show was the Maserati Ghibli, a full-size sedan, with a stylish, luxury interior, featuring leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, and keyless entry. The company has set an annual production target of 50,000 units, and each of them will be available for $65,000.

Lastly, there was the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept, a car that definitely stole the show. It’s a concept with an amazing design, featuring a raked roofline, a pretty long, wide hood, a sharp, aggressive rear end, and a front grille that is covered with LED lights. Its body is made of carbon fiber, with an aluminum chassis, and extra large wheels. Obviously, there are the gull-wing doors, a feature typical of many sports cars made by Mercedes, and a rear spoiler that raises and lowers automatically.

Five Ways to Make Your Auto Dealership Stand Out at the Next Tradeshow

Does your auto dealership have a unique brand backing it? If you want to promote your brand and stand apart from the crowd, participating in an industry tradeshow is key. But if you spend the money to buy space at an industry tradeshow, you need to make sure that you stand out and that you attract attendees to your booth to hear what value you can offer them. If you are planning on participating in an upcoming tradeshow, here are five ways you can guarantee that your company will be seen.

Five Ways to Make Your Auto Company Stand Out at the Next Tradeshow

A Dazzling Display is Key

If you have a boring tradeshow display, persuading people to come to your booth instead of the one with a modular display and flashy design will be virtually impossible. Remember that people gather a first impression of your company in just three seconds based on looks. If you want to impress your audience, invest in a custom display that dazzles the eye.

Have a Professional Face

If you are not the type to get in front of an audience and speak comfortably, make sure you have a very energetic person representing your brand. Did you know that you can hire people to represent your brand at tradeshows? Have a professional face and very social people walking around the event to drive traffic to your booth.

Send out Mailers

You will find out your booth number early as you are preparing for the event. Make sure to order invitation mailers and marketing postcards so that you can send your prospects and customers invitations. Letting people know that you’ll be participating in the tradeshow could drive more traffic to your booth.

Engage with Mobile Applications

Be sure to keep your audience engaged. With so many people using mobile devices to connect to the internet, you can truly benefit from designing a mobile app just for your tradeshow. Find suppliers and mobile app creators in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. By giving participants tools to engage with you at the tradeshow, you can show them videos and keep them excited about your brand.

Give a Gift that Keeps Giving

Many attendees go to tradeshows to learn about new cars or to receive gifts. Consider educating them but don’t forget to give promotional products that reinforce your brand. These useful items can be imprinted with the name of your dealership and contact details.

Tradeshows are a great platform for auto companies to promote their brand. If you want to show off a new model or dazzle an audience with your advanced features, drive the traffic to your booth by using these tips. If you put in the effort, it will pay off with ROI.

Types of SUVs with the Highest Values

The SUV is making a strong comeback on the roads and indeed off road in the UK. For many years, it did of course fall from grace for being a bit of a gas-guzzler that was more often than not rarely used to its full capabilities.

However, these days we are seeing many more fuel-efficient designs, which are suited to both the road and off road driving without compromising the least bit of style, comfort or performance.

As well as being very versatile, the SUV does tend to hold its value well. This, of course, means that you can generally expect a good second hand price for your vehicle or a healthy valuation if you decide to use it as collateral for one of the many cheap logbook loans available.

Understanding used values of vehicles can save you quite a bit of money when it comes to upgrading or changing to a newer model. To help with this valuation process, we have put together a short list of top value holding SUVs.

The Land Rover Discovery 4

1. The Land Rover Discovery 4

This particular model is of course, Land Rover’s flagship model and boasts some of the most technologically advanced all terrain response units on the market. With its high quality leather interior and state of the art on board gadgets, it is also firmly in the luxury vehicle bracket. These SUVs hold their price well, as the demand for these particular models is always high. For models later than 2010, you can expect £25.000 and upwards as used value.

Porsche Cayenne

2. Porsche Cayenne

Being designed an built by one of the most respected sports car manufactures in the world, the Porsche Cayenne certainly does not disappoint. It may lack some of the off road capabilities of the Range Rover or Land Rover, but its road handling is second to none. Fast and responsive this SUV feels more like a sports car than a SUV. Second hand value for a 2006 model is around £10.000 with turbo models from 2010 and onwards often reaching £60.000 and more.

Mercedes ML63 AMG 2010

3. Mercedes ML63 AMG 2010

The range-topping model of the Mercedes M class is the ML63 AMG. This SUV really packs a punch. With its 5.5-litre V8 engine and it sporty aerodynamic looks, this model is firmly in the top ten sports luxury SUVs available on the market today. If you are looking to use one of these as collateral or sell on the second hand market, a 2010 model would be worth something the region of £40.000.

BMW X5

4. BMW X5

The BMW X5 is one of the classic modern SUVs. It’s very spacious and has a number of engine options to suit everyone’s requirements. It has the seating capacity for carrying five people very comfortably and has a large spacious boot. The 3-litre in-line six cylinder is the popular choice and will get you from 0-60mph in just over seven seconds, not bad for a veteran of the SUV world. A 2010 model would be worth £30.000 and upwards.

VW Touareg

5. VW Touareg

The VW Touareg has everything you would expect from a leading car manufacturer like Volkswagen. This is one of the most fuel efficient of performance SUVs on the market, promising nearly 40mpg. It also comes with manmade leather interiors, climate control and DAB radio on all of the standard models. All models are equipped with an 8-gear Tiptronic automatic gearbox and have the towing capacity of 3.500kg. All in all, a great SUV for most families and off road weekend warriors. A 2010 V6 TDI model would be worth somewhere in the region of about £15.000.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

6. Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is another favourite SUV classic for many people. With its sporty lines and V8 engine, it’s very easy to see why. The newest version is the 2012 and it offers everything you would expect and more from this tried and tested 4×4 design. Plenty of room and perfect for some serious off road adventures. The 2010 should fetch around £15.000.

A Sports SUV is one of the most versatile and fun vehicles you could ever hope to own, and with their great used value, also one of the best to sell.

Harley-Davidson’s 110th Birthday Celebration

If I had to explain, you wouldn't understand

This August, Harley-Davidson revved up to celebrate its 110th birthday with a celebration of awesome proportions. Taking place from August 29th through September 1st in Milwaukee, Harley-Davidson’s historic anniversary was a multi-faceted, weekend-long celebration.

Aside from the opportunity to spend a few days hanging out with fellow Harley enthusiasts and motorcycle accident lawyers, this festival featured the release of a new line of Harley bikes, musical performances from some of today’s biggest stars and a UFC fight you won’t want to miss.

Musical Entertainment

The musical entertainment for the event spanned three days and was headlined by Toby Keith, Aerosmith and Kid Rock. Each one of the aforementioned musical artists performed a show individually, with different performances taking place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

In terms of purchasing tickets, you were able to buy individual tickets for a particular performance or buy a pass for the entire festival depending upon your personal preferences. The festival passes were also tiered, with two-day and three-day options available.

In addition to the separately-ticketed musical performances mentioned above, the Summerfest grounds in Milwaukee hosted over 60 other bands throughout the course of the four day festival. Regardless of the location that you prefer or the music you’re interested in, one of these options surely suited your needs.

UFC Fight

In addition to the musical performances earlier in the week, Saturday night was highlighted by the UFC® 164 Harley-Davidson Hometown Throwdown. This UFC event saw Milwaukee’s own Anthony Pettis challenge Benson Henderson in this lightweight title defense, with a staggering win by Henderson, 31:4.

While it may be the fight that everyone is talking about, the lightweight title defense was just one of many other fights to take place as a part of the Hometown Throwdown. The event is riddled with Milwaukee natives looking to earn a victory in front of their hometown fans.

Anniversary Collection

Vending areas were set-up at which you can purchase commemorative 110th anniversary gear to help Harley-Davidson celebrate this historic occasion. Harley-Davidson has created an extensive line of 110th anniversary apparel that includes leather jackets, tee shirts, sweatshirts and other items. For fans who couldn’t make it to Milwaukee, you can purchase these items online and join in on the celebration at home.

Project Rushmore Bikes

Another cool aspect of the upcoming festival was Harley’s unveiling of its Project Rushmore bikes, a new line of motorcycles designed with the tastes and preferences of riders in mind. The 110th anniversary celebration was the first time that riders were able to demo the new bikes and to experience their new features.

Build Up

With this wide array of entertainment and Harley-related hype motorcycle enthusiasts were brimming with excitement. A video posted by Today’s TMJ4 reflectws the excitement that Harley fans felt all over the world. The video displays tents going up for what was described as a weeklong block party, home videos shot by motorcyclists on the open road and interviews with excited locals in Milwaukee.

Aside from the organized and officially ticketed aspects of this event, people were able to enjoy a variety of other amenities and experience the local culture. Bars and restaurants will be packed with fellow riders, the streets were lined with people on Saturday for a Harley-Davidson parade and free street parties took place across the city. Fast Cars: Not Just for Men Anymore

Woman driving a Corvette, after Edward Penfield

Fast Cars: Not Just for Men Anymore

Today’s woman has the need for speed and sports cars can hold just as big of an appeal for them as they do for men. As many career women make their mark in the business world and get married later in life, they have more money to spend on luxury items.

The thrill of a fast car is beckoning to most, and you’ll be surprised at the numbers who ditch comfort and reliability in favor of sporty and fast.

The Appeal of Sports Cars

Men have always been known as having a passion for handling something shiny and fast when traversing the open highways. However, a new survey focuses on the appeal of speed and sports cars for women today.

With this newly found power and freedom, women are making a greater impact on the sports car demand currently than that of males. As more and more women invest in themselves, their need for luxurious items such as a sports car increases. This is no longer a mid-life crisis purchase for female individuals today.

A fast sports car makes a great purchase for female drivers who are at a profitable income level to enjoy the rewards of their labors. It’s also the right purchase for those who have raised a family but want to enjoy pampering and life’s indulgences.

Another factor is the economic downturn where men lost more jobs than women during the recession. As the salary rate of women continues to grow, you’ll see a significant change in the number of sporting vehicles owned by females compared to men.

Most Popular Cars of Choice

As women reassess their needs; they are focusing on items that they’ve always longed for such as a fast car. The Porsche was once a male dominated vehicle, but it now sees women as the top purchaser in today’s automobile industry. The sleek design and mountable horse power makes it a favorable pick for women.

Other cars enjoying a substantial increase due to the rise in women sports car drivers include Chevrolet Corvette, Mercedes S Class, Infiniti G37, and the BMW M Series. To some women, these cars are synonymous with “sexy.”

Speeding Accidents

As women take over the roadways in cars that exceed safe speed limits, the rate of accidents for female drivers increases. Florida speeding ticket attorney firms have seen an increase in speed related cases.

A recent car accident in Miami, Florida had a woman clocked in going faster than conditions allowed. As she lost control of the car, she hit another vehicle and caused the driver to spin around and run into a tree. The force of the crash caused the injured party to suffer injuries that were beyond help, and the patient died as a result of the accident.

For this reason, it’s important to follow safety guidelines when maneuvering a fast sports car that has speed levels that can go beyond what’s allowed on the highways.

Women enjoy a sports car for the same reason a man does, but they are no longer happy to be limited to just a spectator. As their needs change and finances grow, they want to get in on the thrill and experience the speed and power behind the wheel of these amazing vehicles.

Jamica Bell is a freelance writer and a lover of fast cars and speed. She contributes this articles to hone in on the need for safety while driving a fast car. Florida speeding ticket attorney Katz & Phillips, P.A. has years of experience defending the legal rights of motorists charged with driving sporty cars beyond the speed limit.
