Hyundai i20 can be termed as one of the most loved cars to have rolled out of the factories of Hyundai Cars in India. Ever since its launch in 2009, this car has done remarkably good business in the tough Indian market. Often outselling its nearest rivals, the i20 has managed to gain popularity among car buyers due to its stylish looks, large cabin and loads of extra features. The i20 is a complete package in itself that the car became an instant hit among the Indian car buyers.
Following the successful run of the original version of Hyundai i20, Hyundai came up with a facelift of the car in 2012. This time it became more sleek and stylish. The Hyundai i20 sports more of a European look with its large headlamps, thin grille, redesigned front bumper, new tail lamps, spoiler and chrome door handles among others changes.
The face-lifted version of i20 has a dashing appeal on the exterior and a sophisticated look on the interior. The inside remains more or less unchanged, except for some minor changes in the form of digital temperature and fuel gauges, leather covered & well-polished chrome gear lever, comfortable seats with superior upholstery and armrest for driver’s seat and so on.
Even though the engine of the i20 remains unchanged, it feels more powerful now. There are three engine options available for the buyers – two petrol engines and one diesel variant. The 1.2-litre Kappa engine featured in the i20 is boosted with the dual VTVT (Variable Timing Valve Train) technology. The new petrol version of i20 is very fuel efficient, often retuning a mileage of 17 kmpl on highways. On the other hand, the Hyundai i20 diesel variant is powered by a 1.4-litre CRDi diesel engine, which has lower emission, low maintenance and a massive mileage of 23 kmpl on the highways.
The i20 is renowned to offer the best in class interior with ample legroom and headspace. The driver’s seat is height adjustable with armrest. It also offers electrically adjustable ORVMs and steering wheel mounted audio controls. The boot space is also impressive at 295 liters. This can be further extended by folding the rear seat in 60:40 ratios, if needed.
When it comes to braking and safety, the Hyundai i20 is one of the best cars around. ABS with EDB, brake assist, six airbags, reverse parking sensors, front and rear fog lamps, Immobilizer iCATS, driver seat belt warning lamp, central lock, child lock, keyless entry with folding key and burglar alarm, impact sensing auto door unlock and many such safety features. Priced at a range of Rs.4.99 lakh to Rs.8.08 lakh, Hyundai i20 is definitely a good car to own.
